Stallone taps he-men pals Willis and Ah-nuld for 'The Expendables'

If you’re a certain kind of red-meat action movie fan — you know you who are — then you’re already counting down the days to Sylvester Stallone’s orgy of macho mayhem, The Expendables, on August 13th. Sure, we understand that the former Italian Stallion’s output these days has been decidedly hit or miss. But The Expendables is destined to be a classic. Why?  Because it features the once-in-a-lifetime summit of the Big Three action czars of the ’80s: Stallone, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“It took probably eight months to pull it off because of everyone’s schedules,” says Stallone, who also directed and co-wrote the $55 million throwback to man-on-a-mission classics like The Dirty Dozen. “With Arnold especially, we’d plan a date and then there’d be a fire or a budget crisis and he’d have to go back to Sacramento.”

Stallone says the big scene between the three icons serves as little more than a cameo for his A-list pals. But, he adds, “it really sets the hook for the movie.” Willis plays a shady mogul who hires Stallone’s band of mercenaries — which includes Jason Statham, Jet Li, mixed-martial-arts champ Randy Couture, and former NFL player Terry Crews — to overthrow a Latin American dictator. In a twist that smacks of Reagan-era box-office showdowns, Schwarzenegger plays Sly’s longtime rival, a fellow soldier of fortune. “Arnold and I talked about how it takes a while to start up the engines these days,” laughs the 63-year-old Stallone.

“It’s the three of us going nose-to-nose,” Stallone continues. “Bruce and Arnold just got it. It’s so funny because you get there and it’s like, We’ve all seen each other socially, but this is different. It’s like meeting a fellow athlete in the ring. Oh, okay, everyone knows how to work the camera and what angles work for them. It was just fantastic. They’re such pros. Because it’s probably never going to happen again.”

For Stallone’s younger costar, Statham, who grew up weaned on the films of these three stars, the prospect of watching these three in the same scene is like catnip. “I’ve actually seen the scene with the three of them and it’s the best scene in the film,” he says. “I was almost in tears with how funny it is. It’s worth every dollar.”

Stallone says also approached his onetime marquee mates Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme to join the cast, too. But it wasn’t to be. “Seagal had complications because he was busy with his TV show. But Van Damme just had complications about the…a lot of this has been blown out of proportion. Supposedly, he said ‘What is the character’s motivation?’ And I supposedly said, ‘Well, we’re making lots of money!’ Which I never said. I’ve never said that in my entire life! I said, ‘It’s about you and Jet Li. He defeats you.’ And he says, ‘That’s impossible!’ And I go, ‘It’s a movie.’ And he goes, ‘But it could never happen!’ And he said, ‘Why don’t you think of doing some other kind of movie? Maybe something that has to do with inner-city politics? And I go, ‘Well, that’s a little removed from where I’m at. So you hang in there and keep punching.’ A lot has been made out of it. He’s going in a whole different direction with his career and he just didn’t want to go there. I wish he had. There’s always a sequel, so who knows?”

Jennifer Love Hewitt has a crush on Robert Pattinson

Newly-single actress Jennifer Love Hewitt is eyeing to romance Hollywood heartthrob Robert Pattinson.

The 'Heartbreakers' star recently ended a year-long relationship with comedy actor Jamie Kennedy, and insists she's ready to find love again, AceShowbiz reported online.

"His features are so striking. I love that he has such a soft voice," Hewitt said.

However, to win over the British actor would be a tough game for Hewitt as he has constantly been linked to his 'Twilight' co-star Kristen Stewart.

This is not the first time the 31-year-old actress has expressed her love for Pattinson.

"There is not a girl in the world who's not Team Edward! Have you met girls who are not Team Edward? Well, they are not girls! They're aliens from another planet who should not be allowed to exist,"Hewitt had said in an earlier interview.

The National Award winning actress clarified this through her Twitter page.

The actress posted, "Guys just to clarify things... Gerard Butler is not in 'Saat Khoon Maaf'. I don't know where these fictional stories come out as news."

Recently, a Mumbai newspaper had published that Miss Chopra had used her personal relationship with Gerard to sign him in for "Saat Khoon Maaf".

And she is quite miffed.

While Bollywood isn't exactly known for sex in its films, but it has been an important part of the storyline of many a Bollywood flick and this isn't just in the B-grade stuff. There have been a number of mainstream Bollywood films in which sex played a privotal role in the narrative as our list shows.

Actress Udita Goswami is all set to woo her co-actor Anuuj Saxena in Jag Mohan Mundhra's Chase.

Here are more than a handful of Bollywood films that had a sex flavour about them.

Arya Donning a Villian Role in Tollywood

Arya, after his performance in Naan Kadavul, has bagged several projects and has established himself quite well in Kollywood. The actor has now signed up an interesting offer in Tollywood. Reportedly, Arya will be playing a villain in a Telugu film that will directed by Gunasekar. Sources close to him state that Arya took up the villain role because it has equal footage to that of the hero’s character. Incidentally, Telugu star Allu Arjun plays the lead role. The director said that shooting of this film will commence today and will be
completed in a couple of months. Arya definitely seems to be on a experimental spree.

Ashwariya Rai’s commitment to Robot came in for some heavy discussion yesterday. Nearly all sections of the media had recently carried reports of Ash being offered the female lead role in Robot for an astounding sum, making her the top paid actress in the entire country. But only yesterday reports were floating around of Ash pulling out of the

Aishwarya Rai
movie, citing her pregnancy as a reason. Robot, a 24 month project, was too long a time for her to be away from home, seemed to be the implication.

Dispelling these reports strongly, Ash today said that she is committed to Robot; that she admires Shankar for always being a step ahead of any other filmmaker when it came to making cutting edge techno savvy movies. Excited about working with Rajinikanth, she had nothing but praise for him. Rajini is an institution personified, she added, and she would never miss out on an opportunity to work with him.

And here’s further proof of Ash’s commitment to the film industry: The actress, along with her husband Abhishek Bachchan, will star in one more Mani Ratnam film. And no! This is not a Tamil film but Hindi.

Wikileaks

Wikileaks and the Internalized National-Security-Virtual-State :

For many people, at least those living in the United States and other highly industrial and technologically advanced societies, the social and cultural environments of the Electronic Age have come to mean more than real flesh-and blood. In other words, the virtual world of mass media and its larger-than-life entertaining personalities are the images people carry around in their heads. Communications experts have also discovered that for most people these celebrities, politicians and news pundits are socially real and extremely influential. In fact, people act like them, dress like them, speak like them, behave like them, and talk to them-at least in their minds. (This explains the popularity of some talk-show hosts and the surges that mimic their words and views.)
I was reminded of this when Wikileaks released a 2007 video showing a U.S. gunship massacring unarmed civilians in Iraq. (They plan to release another video of U.S. aircraft bombing a Afghan village killing 140 civilians.) It was reminiscent too of when some of us, years ago, challenged U.S. hegemony and wars in Latin America. I once had the chance to travel with Ed Haase throughout Guatemala. He was a radio-journalist from Kansas City and after making frequent trips to Central America, he reported about the consequences U.S. militarization and the reoccurring atrocities. On one occasion, while returning from Nicaragua, he was detained by U.S. Customs officials. FBI agents interrogated him and seized his notes, diary, address book, and other Central American documents.
Not only did U.S. officials harass and question hundreds of other U.S. citizens returning from Nicaragua, but from other nations. I can still recall coming back to the U.S. from Guatemala and Custom officials photocopying my notes. Others were taken to private rooms and interrogated. Just as demoralizing were fellow citizens who did not want to hear about how U.S. military aid and advisers, including corporations and private security firms, were committing human rights abuses, assassinations, and massacres throughout Latin America. Many Americans had internalized the values of hyper-patriotism and the feelings of fun, entertainment, and I-don't-want-to-know-what-my-government-is-doing.
Ed Haase, a dedicated radio-journalist, eventually decided to leave the United States. He was an investigative journalist working in a corporate-owned and virtual world. The goal was to make people feel good, so they would buy the next advertised product and war. Ed Haase was critical of the news media, for it had imprisoned people in a virtual cage of feel-good and entertaining news and information. Instead of listening to others experiences or traveling and searching for certainty, for many a media-oriented virtual experience became the ultimate reality. Independent thinking and objective beliefs based on real and global experiences were replaced with manufactured thinking and contrived beliefs.
The magnetism of U.S. censorship is that people "think" they are free and knowledgeable, but they do not "know" they have internalized and have been imprisoned by a national-security-virtual-state. It purports fear, ignorance, confusion, misinformation and is highly selective in regards to the past and present. It induces false values and incorrect thoughts, which are far removed from the realities of the rest of the world. Wikileaks is to be commended for shattering a de-contextualized and virtual world, along with confronting those in the political, military, academic, and intelligence establishments. Already, at least one member has been detained and questioned and there have been numerous threats.
Wikileaks has also gained the attention of U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who condemned the group by claiming the military footage that showed U.S. forces killing civilians were out of context and provided an incomplete picture. They are also under surveillance and have probably been infiltrated. As they try to expose a secretive and clandestine government and its misguided military operations, let us hope U.S. citizens will be able to listen, observe and understand the realities and sufferings of others, especially in nations that are still being occupied by the United States.

Mars Experiment Design Competition Focuses on Teamwork:

Before Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the moon, NASA wanted to learn more about Earth's closest celestial body. So, it sent probes and rovers to check out the conditions. The space agency has sent similar missions to the Red Planet, only now it is turning to future explorers to help learn how to live and work on Mars long before humans travel there.

Space Florida recently announced the names of three winning school teams in Florida for the Mars Experiment Design Competition, which will bring the nation one step closer to the Martian surface.

Lake Nona Middle/High School in Orange County: Team "Geeky Lions" will perform geology and biology field studies with its experiment called "Can Water Plus Martian Soil Equal Life?"

Mulrennan Middle School in Hillsborough County: Team "TechPlayZone Red Voyagers" will study human factors with its experiment called "Emotional Dynamics."

Golden Gate High School in Collier County: Team "Big Red Mission Crew" will study mission operations with its experiment called "How to Produce Energy."

Space Florida received 32 completed entries in this scientific design competition, which invited Florida middle and high school students to design scientific experiments to send to the Mars Desert Research Station, or MDRS, in Utah in March.

The MDRS is one of four such facilities throughout the world, and is operated by The Mars Society. Each facility can simulate the environmental and geological conditions encountered on the planet.

Three judges -- all recognized experts in their field of study -- closely examined the entries and agreed that scientific standards were very high.

"We are grateful to everyone who participated. It is obvious that teachers and students worked very closely together so as to come up with these innovative Mars experiments," said Tony Gannon, Space Florida director of education.

The winning teams will now focus on refining their experiments before they are shipped to the facility.

In the spring, and with cooperation from Kennedy and its Digital Learning Network, or DLN, NASA personnel will transmit scientific results obtained from the experiments to the three winning teams. During these transmissions, each team will have an opportunity to interact directly with NASA engineers. They also will take a virtual tour of Kennedy.

Dr. George Yoakum, science teacher and "Geeky Lions" team leader at Lake Nona Middle/High School said, "Perhaps most importantly, students learned to recognize the strengths of their teammates, peers and mentors, and became comfortable organizing these resources to reach high-quality decisions."
