salt

Salt is an upcoming American action thriller film directed by Phillip Noyce, written by Kurt Wimmer and Brian Helgeland, and starring Angelina Jolie, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Liev Schreiber. Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, accused of being a KGB sleeper agent, on the run to try to clear her name. While Tom Cruise was initially secured for the lead, he was unable to commit to the role because of commitments to other projects, and the script was ultimately rewritten for Jolie.

Filming took place on location in Washington, DC and New York City between March and June 2009. Jolie was taken to the hospital after suffering a head injury on set but was released the same day where filming resumed. The film will have a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 22 and will be released in North America on July 23, 2010, and August 20, 2010, in the United Kingdom.

The Unveiling of the Bahati Foundation Pro Cycling Team

             At the end of the 19th century, African-American cyclist Marshall "Major" Taylor seized the sport's attention based on a ‘perfect storm' of circumstances- the public's thirst for speed, the era's unrelenting passion for competition, and Major's desire to push his mental and physical boundaries.

Over 110 years later, Rahsaan Bahati is not only following in Taylor's footsteps, but forging a path of his own towards cycling excellence. For Bahati, his skin color is an avenue and opportunity to affect social change.

The unveiling of the Bahati Foundation Pro Cycling Team in downtown Los Angeles last Friday night was a culmination of months of hard work by countless people. For Bahati, it was the realization of a dream he's had since attending Crenshaw High School a decade ago. It was there that his two loves- music and riding- set him on a path towards greatness.

"I just had a vision that one day I could show up with a U-Haul truck full of instruments and surprise all the kids...we're almost there...that's one of the first things I want to do with the money donated here tonight,"a visibly moved Bahati said to the packed house at Club Nokia.

     The crowd itself was a unique mix of the cycling industry, local Southern California riders, and friends and family who have followed Rahsaan's storied career.

Aside from meeting the team in its entirety for the first time, the night was meant to be a celebration, and a call to action, for what sets this team apart- GIVING BACK.

The Bahati Foundation, by definition, supports youth in inner city and under-served communities through the sport of cycling, education and music. Simply put, it helps young kids transcend their circumstances for a better life. Their purpose can be distilled even further to three words: Charity, Responsibility, and Action.

"It's an easy message, it's all about giving back. That came from Rahsaan on Day One," commented Steve Owens, the team's General Manager.

On top of the team's powerful social motivation, their racing resumés prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that this team will be a force to be reckoned with every time they toe the line.

"It was Rahsaan who said it, but it's really exciting to have a team just like this, we're so extremely strong. It reminds me of the days of SATURN- which was the most dominant team in the United States for some time," Owens added.

     The roster is full of national and international experience, Olympians, National Champions, and GC winners. For 8x Australian National Champion Nathan O'Neill, who was a fixture on the US racing circuit for years, the team offers another motivating force: a second chance.

Having served a two-year suspension for doping after testing positive for the appetite suppressant phenteramine at the Tour of Elk Grove in August 2007, O'Neill is as excited to race again as a 10-year old with his first two-wheeler.

"The vibe amongst the riders is incredible...we're all on the same page...now that we're doing this for kids, and me being a parent, I realize that there is no job in the world more important than raising another human being, and it doesn't matter if they're my kids or someone else's kids, they are all important."

 O'Neill's teammate, Floyd Landis, was all smiles at Friday night's launch. Though negotiations to join Bahati's team had been ongoing, even as little as one week ago, it looked like the former winner of the Tour of Georgia, Tour of California, and Paris-Nice, might not have a squad to ride for during the upcoming season. Officially announced as joining the team this past Wednesday, the joy on his face was evident as he talked about racing and the message of the Foundation. Floyd spent 2009 re-acquainting himself with the peloton, and those that know him well have said he is eager for the 2010 season to commence and to deliver results.

For Floyd and the rest of the team, the canvas on which to paint their 2010 masterpiece would be the Amgen Tour of California. The connections are obvious and GM Steve Owens made it clear in stating, "We are working very hard to see it happen. It would be inspirational on so many levels for Rahsaan and this team to race through the streets of downtown Los Angeles."

For bike-racing fans, this is one of the top teams to watch in the coming months. They will not be afraid to animate races, and ultimately, expect to win. Aside from each rider's personal goals, the mission Bahati has given them should prove to be equally empowering.

Win or lose on the road, the Bahati Foundation Pro Cycling Team is about nurturing that essential link and connection between us all, and that's the essence of giving back, as well as the key to winning on the road of life.

The 55 year old Kamal Haasan also added: “I’m looking forward to the next 10 years which I hope will be the best years of my career.” It proves beyond doubt that there is nobody who is more passionate about cinema than the master himself.

The minister also said: “This is an acknowledgement of your contribution for the past 50 years. After his debut in Kalathur Kannamma in 1959, Kamal has been honoured with several awards. In fact, he may be the most awarded person in the country.”

Knight and Day

Knight and Day,  (formerly titled Wichita  and Trouble Man) is an action comedy film starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. The film, directed by James Mangold, is Cruise and Diaz's second on-screen collaboration following the 2001 film Vanilla Sky.

The film's investors offset funding costs by paying Cruise a lower advance fee and neglecting to provide him with a share of the revenue until the financiers earn back their initial investment in the production. Filming took place in several locations, mainly in several cities located in Massachusetts, while other scenes were filmed in Spain and parts of Austria.

Knight and Day was released in the United States on June 24, 2010. The film received mixed reviews from film critics; it garnered a "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes based upon aggregated reviews, and a rating of "mixed or average reviews" at Metacritic.

Resident Evil

 The latest trailer for the fourth Resident Evil flick, Resident Evil: Afterlife, hit the web today, which is guaranteed to make a certain number of people very excited, while the rest are probably apathetic or outright hostile to this latest piece of franchise dreck.  Of course, the fact that the Resident Evil movies ran out of ideas half a decade ago - after Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) - isn't relevant as long as they keep making money, but you'd think that Screen Gems and Constantin Films could muster just an ounce of respect for the series' fans and actually pull together a film that was as frightening as the source material.  Instead it looks like we'll just be getting another Ultraviolet, but without the creative art direction.

Text message fast becoming acceptable way of asking girl out Down Under

Now asking a girl out on a date can be less daunting, with text messages fast becoming an acceptable way to approach them, reveals an Australian research on technology habits.

The research conducted by Telstra, led to the discovery of an entirely new set of dating rules.

The findings showed that one in two Australians find it okay to ask someone on a first date via a text message.

But it also showed that more than half do not find breaking-up with someone via text message, email or phone acceptable.

Telstra Consumer Executive Director Jenny Young said the results aren't surprising, as the number of mobile phones in Australia exceeded the total population of the country.

"Few aspects of our lives have been influenced as much by technology as our love lives," the Courier Mail quoted her as saying.

"It's clear there are now so many more ways for couples to interact than there was 10 years ago, from email to social networking, instant messaging and video calling," she said.

Some found being asked out on a date via text message to mean that the guy does not have the courage for a face-to-face meet, hence rendering him not worth knowing.

Others found that it's a great way to ask a girl out, as should she want to turn down the guy, it would be much easier than when the person is right in front.

Last year Telstra handled a massive 8.9 billion text messages and their latest State of Nation report suggests technology is changing the dating landscape altogether with Australians even creating digital dating etiquette and tactics.

The study suggests many people play 'hard-to-get' during technological courtship, with 42 percent purposely delaying their response to a message in order to appear uninterested.

To educate Australians on the new rules of courtship, Telstra invited the authors of Flirtexting, Debra Goldstein and Olivia Baniuszewicz, to Australia give some tips on technological courtship.

Johnny Depp Will Not Marry Vanessa Paradis

Johnny Depp confessed he doesn't want to marry his long-term partner Vanessa Paradis, arguing he will only burden her with his name.

Depp explained: "It would be a shame to ruin her last name! It's so perfect - Vanessa Paradis. So beautiful. It would be such a drag to stick her with Paradis-Depp. It's like a flat note.

For all intents and purposes we are married. We have two kids together and she is the woman in my life.

But if she ever said: 'Hey, let's get hitched', I would do it in a second. We'll do it if the kids want us to, or maybe when the kids are old enough to enjoy it with us."

Depp also said he's not sure that getting married will change their way of life. "Marriage can be whatever you define it as. For example, I don't feel like I need a piece of paper that says I own her and she owns me.

I think signing a piece of paper doesn't mean anything in the eyes of God or in the eyes of people. The thing is, if you are together and you love each other and are good to each other, make babies and all that, for all intents and purposes you are married."

Depp is the father of two children, Lily-Rose and Jack, with his seven-years companion, French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis.

He and his family divide their time between Los Angeles and a villa in the South of France. He has also dated actresses Sherilyn Fenn, Jennifer Grey, Winona Ryder, and model Kate Moss.
